This coffee has been sourced from Royal Coffee, a family-owned coffee importer based in Oakland, California. They have developed an extensive network of connections in Ethiopia and source some of the tastiest coffees we’ve tasted from there. We’re still a very small company and Ethiopia’s systems for exporting coffee aren’t well set up for people of our size. We’re working on developing more connections there, and are excited for what’s coming in the coming years but are thankful for companies like Royal that sell excellent stuff.

METAD is a family-owned company that owns an estate and several processing stations in Guji and Gedeb. They also support farmers in these regions by providing higher prices, free training, free seedlings, and by building up their communities. They have constructed schools and community health centers around Guji and Gedeb for everyone’s benefit.

This coffee comes from Kirite, a small Kebele within the Woreda of Hambela. The outgrowers here bring their cherries to METAD’s washing station, and this coffee has been depulped, dry-fermented, washed, then soaked overnight before being dried on raised beds. The coffee is a truly spectacular example of the most intense flavours to come from this area.
