The best home brewer in the world

Many renowned coffee experts consider the Technivorm Moccamaster line of coffee brewers to simply be the best available. Here's why:

Heat

Heats water to the proper temperature of 92 – 94 degrees Celsius (198 - 204 ˚F) and keeps it consistent through the whole brew cycle, ensuring proper flavour extraction from coffee grounds.

Speed

The Technivorm's brew cycle finishes in about six minutes. That's much shorter than other brewers, and better for your coffee.

Not Made in China

Quality of build is extremely important when it comes to coffee brewers. Each unit is hand-built and tested by ethically treated, well paid and knowledgeable people in The Netherlands (not China), meeting the very highest quality standards. They are imported directly by Transcend Coffee, and personally inspected by our staff before we ship them to you. These machines are incredibly solid, well put-together, and and easy to use. They will last for years and years to come. In fact, some European customers are still using the Technivorm brewer they purchased over 20 years ago!

This brewer is exactly the same as the Technivorm Moccamaster CD Thermal, expect for the design of the brew tower and the height of the brewer (this one is 0.5 inches shorter).

This item qualifies for free shipping anywhere in Canada.

The new brew-thru lid is now included with this brewer.

Media Endorsements

The Technivorm Moccamaster CD Thermal meets the very strict requirements of both the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA) and the Specialty Coffee Association of Europe (SCAE) for coffee brewing quality. This is something very few coffee makers can claim.

Product Reviews

  1. Good investment

Posted by Brian on 12th Oct 2011

Have used this machine since Christmas 2010. I am impressed by the quality, but I should be as I paid dearly. Some of the features as outlined in the other reviews are well thought out. I feel after about 10 months that I can say without reservation that this thing is made to last. I have experimented with most variables with exception of the water. We don't have chlorinated water and only 5 gr. of hardness. Noticed a slow down after 6 months. Cleaned with half white vinegar, half water. Good as new.

  2. Simply the best.

Posted by Len Blizzard on 2nd Aug 2010

I have owned many coffee machines over the years. My friends say that I am a coffee snob. I even roast my own beans. It goes without saying that I wanted the best coffee maker that I could find. This is it. I did a lot of research and all the reviews said that this was the best. Simple to use, nice to look at, brews at the correct temperature and has a carafe. Well worth the money.

  3. Best for what it does

Posted by Bob Creighton on 15th May 2010

Owning a Technivorm KBT741 was a dream I hoped to fulfill since reading reviews on Coffeegeek.com several years ago. I even wrote to the company in Holland asking them how I could buy one in Canada. By coincidence, they were in the process of acquiring a Canadian distributor - Transcend. I have had my KBT741 for a year and a half now and I love it.

The solid build tells me this is a "prosumer" tool, and after watching the video of how it is hand-built by craftsmen I know why it is so heavy. The most important features of drip brewing are water temperature (200F), proper dispersion of the water on the grinds, brew time (under 6 minutes for 1.25 l) and maintaining coffee at serving temperature without a burner. This brewer manages to accomplish all of these tasks.

There are a few things to note about the KBT741. Like all stainless carafes it is not as easy to clean as glass (retains odors from the oils) and needs to be pre-heated. The coffee filter basket has a shutoff valve that is easy to forget is closed, but is not really a disaster since the overflow will direct the water around the filter into the carafe (coffee is still drinkable). This model is too tall to fit under my kitchen cabinets which have under-cabinet lights.

The biggest complaint I had with the design will be solved by the new brew-through carafe lid: since I now use this machine at my office (solves my cabinet height problem), I often walk away from the brewing process and get engrossed in other activities, forgetting to put the cap on, allowing the brew to cool.

  4. Good AND Fast?

Posted by Andrew Hvarregaard on 13th May 2010

    Absolutely!

My friends scoff, but for me this was money well spent. This coffee pot sees action 5-10 times a week, and for over a year has consistently made good coffee, and quickly.

When it was time to replace my old coffee maker, I started with a list of desired characteristics for the new unit; thermal carafe, 1.25L, sturdy, and most importantly, supported by consumer reviews. And then I went web shopping. Wen the dust settled, and the list of candidates ended up with a single entry, my choice was made.

My girlfriend and I have but one complaint, the coffee from our technivorm has ruined coffee elsewhere for us, exposing it for what it is. And isn't...

  5. Expensive, until you realize what you have been missing. And it is likely the last brewer you will ever buy.

Posted by Steve Dahl on 7th May 2010

I was skeptical when I purchased my first KBT a few years ago. Three hundred bucks for a dead simple machine? You are kidding right?

The beauty is in the simplicity, this machine has no fancy bells and whistles, nothing to fail or break. The KBT 741 has heavy duty construction, it is fast, relaible and consistent. I replaced my "commercial" BUNN pourover machine with a second KBT in my office and my staff love it.

Pair this up with a Baratza grinder and never look back.

  6. Best coffee maker period!

Posted by Tim Lieber on 3rd May 2010

With all the coffee makers I've owned over the years this one is easily the best. I've paid more and I've paid less but never have I made such consistent coffee for the last two years, day after day, sometimes 2-3 times per day.
Temperature control, speed, consistency from day to day is amazing, this coffee brewer lets me understand different coffees and the strengths and weaknesses in each of them.
