Story

This amazing coffee is one of our direct trade coffees, and this is the fourth year that we are proud to be offering Edwin's fine product.

Finca Vista Hermosa is a legacy of three generations of coffee lovers who have poured their hearts into the rich land of Huehuetenango, Guatemala. Because it is situated in the highlands, Huehuetenango coffees are among the more coveted coffees of altitude from Guatemala. The family plantation is located in Agua Dulce, Huehuetenango in northwest Guatemala. Finca Vista Hermosa is ecologically sound and healthy, a model for many shade grown and organic plantations.

Finca Vista Hermosa runs a good model for being both environmentally and socially responsible for a farm in the region, as they don't use any herbicides, pesticides or fungicides.

We asked Edwin to tell us a little more about the Michicoy micro-lot. Here's what he told us:

"Michicoy is the first, original that my family purchased. The the other micro lots that were eventually purchased and now make up the rest of Finca Vista Hermosa were all in a different location about 2.5 km up the road.

Michicoy is actually the name of the community. My grandfather Felipe was asked to buy this land by someone in his church. My grandfather said no because, as the pastor, he had no money, but the gentleman said. "Don't worry about it, I'm not worried about you paying me. I know you will, take as long as you like."

And this is how our family unintentionally got into the coffee business. Since then it has become increasingly intentional.

Michicoy is the lot with the most fertile soil of the FVH lots and it is steep with a lot of shade provided by the ridge itself. We use mostly Inga for shade here and have a mix of Caturra, Catuai, Red Bourbon, Maragogype and yellow Bourbon."
