Josh Hockin, 2011 Canadian Barista Champion

Josh would be perfectly happy if his bio read something like this: has beard, usually hilarious. And while that is true, it is also woefully incomplete. Josh successfully competed in the 2011 Canadian Barista Championship in Vancouver, where he placed first with a score of 651 points. His passion and dedication to his craft and to coffee in general led him to this momentus victory. He has been with Transcend Coffee since 2007 and is one of Poul's most trusted and loyal team members. He will compete in Vienna in June of 2012 at the World Barista Championships, representing Canada.
The truth is, as Transcend’s director of training and quality control, Josh does just about anything and everything you could imagine. He trains all of our baristas, he fixes espresso machines, clovers, technivorms and grinders, he roasts coffee, he cups coffee, and he makes and drinks a whole lot of coffee.
Josh has studied with Coffee Collective in Denmark, Synesso in Washington, he’s worked with World Barista Champions Gwilym Davies and James Hoffmann, and has an electrical engineering degree. And yes, he has a beard and is usually hilarious.
