spanky new packaging

Written by James Schutz |  May 13, 2010

Transcend is happy to introduce new custom printed sealed and valved packaging. We made the move to valve-sealed packaging to primarily to increase freshness. With the addition of a nitrogen-flush machine (due to arrive at the shop in a week or two), the sealed bag will effectively increase the shelf-life of our coffee by about 400%. Before you get too excited about the 400%, remember that this makes for a maximum shelf life of about four weeks, rather than one week maximum in a non-sealed non-flushed bag.

And of course once you open that bag and expose the coffee to oxygen, you have about 5-7 days of freshness, then the coffee will stale, no matter what you do to prevent it. So always buy fresh-roased coffee, ideally just enough to last you for one week.

I'm quite thrilled with how the fully-custom printed bags look, thanks to a delightful design by our pals at Woodward Design. It feels like we're starting to really mature and grow as a company with our second location, new website and new packaging under our belts. The new bags give us one more opportunity to tell a part of our story and get some education in as well, with the 'paths to transcending ordinary coffee' brewing tips on the side.
