Prairies Regional Barista Championships - only two weeks away

Written by James Schutz |  August 28, 2009
If you're interested in coffee at a competitive level, or if you're just a fan of Transcend, you'll want to follow what's going on at the PRBC. And if you happen to live near Calgary, or are looking for a good excuse for a road trip, by all means come out to Fratello Coffee Roasters on Saturday September 12 and be part of the geeky coffee goodness.

We're starting to get excited. Competition season is heating up.

Chad is practicing and tweaking his set every day. Josh is away in the UK working with Square Mile and World Barista Champ Gwilym Davies, and we assume he's getting terribly inspired. Poul and the rest of the organizing crew are madly checking tasks off lists. Even I—the nerdy marketing guy, who is by all means a coffee novice—am cooking up a little surprise for the competition.

The top three scoring baristas at PBRC get to move onto to compete at the Canadian National Barista Championship October 14 & 15 in Vancouver.

If you happen to be a barista yourself, you can still register to compete. Fill out the form by August 31 (that's Monday) and start practicing. Just for competing you get the handsome Reg Barber tamper you see above. It's worth a good deal more than the registration fee.

We'll be tweeting and live streaming the event on Ustream. Below are all the ways you can keep up with the event.
