New El Sals
Two new direct-trade coffees from El Salvador have got us excited this week. Both farms are run by the same farmer, Juan Jose Ernesto Menéndez Argüello. Poul met Juan Jose Ernesto and visited the farms in the spring of 2009 when he was part of the international jury for the 2009 El Salvador Cup of Excellence program.
Juan José Ernesto is a fourth generation coffee grower. He’s been involved in coffee since 1995 when he inherited a farm called San Carlos from his father. He is also a Star Cupper, and earned his Q grader certification from the SCAA and CQI early this year. Both of his coffees demonstrate his dedication to quality and his understanding of what makes great coffee.

Sampler Pack
People often ask us which coffee to try, and when they're buying a gift, they often want to give a few different coffees in order to introduce the one about to receive the gift to the variety of flavour profiles found in coffees from different countries and regions. That was a big part of the inspiration behind the sampler pack. It's five coffees that we pick at the time the order comes in and we try to make sure they cover a range of countries and flavour profiles. The coffees come in reusable tins and a nice little wooden box with a laser engraved Transcend logo on the lid. For real! Actual laser beams!

The ubiquitous gift guide
If you're looking for an interesting coffee gift, and you didn't happen to see our email newsletter last week, you can check it out online. There are lots of good ideas there, although two of our most popular gifts, the six-month and 12-month coffee subscriptions were somehow left off the list.
