Finca Vista Hermosa – La Vega

Written by James Schutz |  August 31, 2010

Fresh crop micro-lot coffee from one of our favourite producers.

Edwin Martinez and his family have been growing coffee in the Huehuetenango region of Guatemala for three generations, and have quickly become one of our favourite coffee producers. They run an environmentally and socially responsible farm and don’t use any herbicides, pesticides or fungicides.

All of Edwin’s coffees are very clean and well-balanced, but the La Vega micro lot is exceptionally delicious, offering notes of vanilla and milk chocolate, tropical citrus acidity, caramel body and a long, smooth finish. Our director of coffee, Josh, used this micro lot as his competition espresso for the Canadian National Barista Competition in October of 2009 and his cappuccino tasted like a liquid Skor bar – all milk chocolate and toffee. Mmm, just thinking about it makes my mouth water.

Edwin recently sent these photos of his farm which really give a sense of the richness of the country and the people, as well as the care they take in harvesting and producing their coffee.
