Our homeboy Josh Hockin, 2011 Canadian Barista Champion is deep in the throes of preparing to compete at the world stage for the World Barista Championship in Vienna June 12 - 15, 2012. Tasting countless shots, pouring seemingly endless cappuccinos and testing top secret sig drinks is now a daily routine.

We put together a little video to celebrate. Or to indulge Josh's growing ego. One of those two. Enjoy.

I'm very excited for our first official shows at the Elevation Room — coming up today and tomorrow — get yer tix! If you haven't heard, the Elevation Room is the brand new, intimate live music venue in the basement of our very own Jasper Ave café.

This past Tuesday night, we tried out the room a little, with help from our pals Ghost Cousin—two of the band members are co-workers. They played a set for a small group of friends and family. We poured a few drinks. We turned it up. And it was good. The feedback we recieved from the band and those in attendance is that the room sounds good, is comfortable, and that it is a much needed addition to Edmonton's small list of live music venue.

Here's what a few others in the community have to say:

Sandra Sperounes at the Edmonton Journal

Kevin Maimann at Gig City

Omar Mouallem at Avenue Magazine

I hope you'll join us for one of the amazing shows we have lined up in the next several weeks.

Below, there is a little bit about our approach to sourcing and roasting coffee.

A slice of Holiday cheese

December 23, 2011
Sometimes, you just have to embrace the cheese of the season.

roaster_crew-blog

Thanks to you — our friends, family, customers, blog readers — we had a great year.  We've had a lot of fun roasting some amazing coffees on our new (to us) vintage Probat UG22 roaster, we opened a new café, went on a number of sourcing trips, started making our own food in-house, and fared pretty well at a little coffee competition.

If you are still looking for a last minute gift, you can always opt for a coffee subscription. It doesn't involve traffic or line-ups or wrapping, and it will remind the recipient of you every time they find some delicious coffee in the mail. We'll even email you a certificate you can print out to put under the tree.

If you're in Edmonton, check out our holiday hours and come visit us, we'd love to see you.

From Poul, Kate, Zack, Gustavo and the many, many other talented and dedicated coffee enthusiasts on the Transcend team that didn't happen to be at the roastery when this odd picture was taken (there's around 30 more of us), have a joyful and restful holiday.
